The store had been in continuous operation since 1822. In November of 2024, my wife Erin passed away from a 6 month battle with a rare form of breast cancer. Due to staffing issues, I had to close the store and, after some searching, couldn't come up with a way to keep it open as a general store. Fast forward to November of 2025 and friends from church took over the store as the Refuge BBQ and Mercantile. I encourage you to check them out. They have done amazing work to both update the store and keep it "traditional" at the same time. On top of that, their product is top notch. Don't take my word for it, search around.
